In this regard, separate cases have been registered under Section 25 of the Indian Arms Act, 1959, against the individuals responsible for the unauthorised modifications. During this period, a total of 2,925 firearms were inspected across the district. Anyone with information regarding the unauthorised use, modification, or hoarding of firearms is urged to immediately report it to the nearest police station or contact Udupi district police control room at 0820-2526444, 0820-2526709, or via WhatsApp at 9480805400, the SP said.

Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said that this special operation was carried out over the past month. Furthermore, police conducted special checks on the behavior of individuals who possess firearm licenses and are on the rowdy-sheeter list, specifically looking into whether they have been involved in any criminal cases since acquiring their firearms, he said. Prioritising public safety and the maintenance of law and order, the SP said that police will continue to maintain strict vigilance against the illegal use and unauthorised modification of weapons in the coming days, and will take necessary legal action.

During the inspection, it was discovered that unauthorised modifications had been made to four weapons across different police station limits. These cases were registered at the Shankaranarayana, Kota, Brahmavara, and Karkala Town police stations and are currently under investigation. He appealed to the public to cooperate in maintaining public safety.
