Kolkata: Bengal govt’s food and supplies department will offer a 50% discount on food items distributed through the public distribution system (PDS) to 2.12 crore families during the Puja season, food minister Ashok Kirtania said.
“The previous govt provided a 10% discount only to beneficiaries holding Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and SPHH cards. We are offering a 50% discount. we have now brought around 2.12 crore families under the festive package,” Kirtania said While 78 lakh families previously benefited.
The state govt will incur an additional expenditure of Rs 114 crore for the package.
