Traffic signal at Gadkari Chowk in Nashik city
Nashik : Traffic signal operations across Nashik city are being consolidated under a single agency, with the Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) set to take over monitoring and management of all 70 traffic signals ahead of the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela. Currently, the Smart City Corporation manages 40 signals developed under the Smart City Mission, while the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) oversees the remaining 30 older signals. Civic authorities are now planning to transfer management of these 30 signals to the Smart City Corporation after upgrading them, ensuring that all signal-related operations are handled through a single agency.
Officials said the move follows a suggestion from police commissioner Sandeep Karnik, who had urged civic authorities to bring all traffic signals under one administrative umbrella. The idea is to improve efficiency and ensure quicker resolution of traffic signal issues,” More said. The proposal aims to eliminate coordination issues arising from the involvement of multiple agencies and provide the police with a single point of contact for addressing signal-related problems. Police personnel are sometimes required to coordinate with different authorities depending on the location of a signal, leading to delays in addressing complaints and technical issues. “The police administration had suggested that all signals should be managed by one agency. It becomes easier to coordinate when there is only one organisation responsible for operations and maintenance.
