Microsoft has unveiled a set of new features for Microsoft Teams at its Ignite 2025 conference. The most significant update is Teams Mode for Microsoft 365 Copilot, which transforms individual AI chats into shared, group AI collaborations. These features or tools are for customers and businesses, and heavily emphasise the integration of Copilot and artificial intelligence (AI) to automate workflows to amplify team collaboration.
Microsoft says that users can now securely bring colleagues into their Copilot conversations within Teams, selecting specific messages to share while keeping other prompts private. Other notable updates include “Open in new window” for Teams apps like chat and calendar, and the general availability of Immersive events in Teams, allowing participants to join customisable 3D events as avatars, now including support for Meta Quest VR headsets. This feature, now in public preview, allows teams to brainstorm, draft and research collaboratively with Copilot. This AI agent can act as a domain expert for a channel, summarising progress with status reports and, using the new Workback Plan feature, automatically creating a sequenced list of tasks and due dates for projects.
For users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, the AI can analyse chat history and meeting transcripts to generate smart recaps, extract decisions, and surface relevant insights. The core Copilot experience in Teams has also been unified across chats, channels and meetings. This is aimed at significantly cutting down time spent catching up.
