Kanpur: Nitika Bhatia of Kanpur in the girls’ group outplayed Jayati Kushwaha by 30-23 in the second round of the girls’ group of Yonex Sunrise Late Sitaram Pandey memorial second UP state Senior Major Badminton Championship-2026 being played here at Green Park on Friday.

Shivani Singh of NIR defeated Anjul Patel of Prayagraj by an identical margin (30-23). In the men’s group, Shaurya Pratap Singh of Lucknow drubbed Mrinmay Yadav by 30-28. Results of girls’ singles: Divyanshi Gautam (Agra) beat Khushi (Ghaziabad) 30-11, Sneha Morya (Noida) beat Adwita Tyagi (Ghaziabad) 30-16, Aradhya Kushwaha (Aligarh) beat Rishika Yadav (Jhansi) 30-8, Taranjit Kaur Basi (Moradabad) beat Mudita Jalan (Kanpur) 30-15, Tanya Kashyap (Unnao) beat Gargi Dhiman (Saharanpur) 30-5 and Shreya Santosh (Ballia) defeated Siddhi Jha of Kanpur by 30-22. Sneha Singh (Lucknow) beat Shruti Chauhan (Noida) 30-14 and Kuhu (Agra) defeated Maya Kumari (Jhansi) 30-28 in a thrilling match. Simran Chaudhary (UPP) beat Anishka (Kanpur) 30-12, and Kajal Mishra (Mainpuri) defeated Aradhya Yadav (Kanpur) 30-8.

Nitika dominated the proceedings with her better stamina and endurance. Her net game too was perfect, winning her several points. The two challenged each other on equal terms and both led the field for brief moments, but Shaurya finished the game with a cross-court smash.
