Additionally, they have ranged Ice Ball throws, with damage scaling based on how fast the projectile is moving when it lands. Ice Balls also drop as an item when a Frozen Zombie is defeated, feeding into two new crafting options. Those dropped Ice Balls can be turned into a Potion of Freezing, a negative-effect potion best used as a splash variant to slow down enemies or other players in PvP. The update also adds an Arrow of Freezing, a new tipped arrow that applies the same freezing effect from range. This will turn out to be quite useful against tougher targets.

Minecraft is set to enter its coldest territory with the upcoming 26.4 drop. At the time of writing, Mojang hasn’t announced an official release date, but the update is widely expected to arrive around mid December, with a possible release date lying between 13-20. The estimate lines up with the studio’s recent quarterly release cadence, and last year’s Mounts of Mayhem drop also launched around the middle of December. The headline additions are a brand-new Ice Caves biome, a dangerous icicle hazard, and a new zombie variant built entirely around the cold. Unlike the Lush Caves, Ice Caves generate specifically underneath frozen biomes and are filled with packed ice, blue ice, calcite, and other icy blocks. Two new environmental additions define the look and danger of the Ice Caves. Ice Crystals are a new light-source block that generates naturally on cave floors, visually similar to Amethyst but with its own icy texture Meanwhile, Icicles form on cave ceilings and can clump into large stalactite-like formations. They aren’t just decorative as they can break loose when exposed to light and deal damage to anything standing underneath. The update also introduces the Frozen Zombie, a hostile mob covered in ice and snow that spawns in snowy biomes and inside the Ice Caves. It attacks with standard melee hits, which can apply a new freezing effect. Get the latest Sports News and Live updates. Download the TOI app.
