The complainant, who previously worked as a cleaner at a bank branch on SG Highway, has a savings account at a bank branch in Prahladnagar, according to the FIR. The caller told him that suspicious transactions were taking place in his account and that KYC formalities needed to be completed to prevent money from being deducted. His wife also has an account at the same branch. The caller allegedly sent a file via WhatsApp and instructed him to install it on his mobile phone. After opening the file, the victim began receiving alerts about money being withdrawn from both his and his wife’s bank accounts. Realising something was wrong, he immediately contacted a bank employee and informed her about the transactions. The bank subsequently blocked both accounts. The victim later learnt from the bank that no official had contacted him regarding KYC verification.
