Ravindra Wakode intended to demonstrate at IIT Bombay following his denial of permission to protest at Azad Maidan
Sahil Wakode, a 22-year-old second-year BTech student, was found hanging in his hostel room on September 18, hours after he was allegedly caught using a mobile phone during a mid-semester examination. Police have so far recorded the statements of around 40 people, including Sahil’s parents, fellow students and IIT hostel staff.
Police did not allow Ravindra Wakode to stage a protest at Azad Maidan, according to the family’s lawyer. He is now planning to go to IIT Bombay’s Powai campus. His parents have alleged that he faced caste-based discrimination at the institute. Following a complaint lodged by Ravindra Wakode, Powai police registered an FIR against Professor Doolla.
MUMBAI: The father of IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode, who allegedly died by suicide, was denied permission to continue his protest at Azad Maidan and is now planning to visit the institute’s Powai campus, his lawyer said on Saturday. The development comes as a group of IIT Bombay students stepped up their agitation over Sahil’s death, launching a hunger strike on Friday and demanding accountability from the institute administration.
