Kochi : A 34-year-old photographer was arrested with MDMA by Ernakulam Excise special squad on Saturday.
Arun K Nair, 34, of Pampady, Kottayam, was travelling in a car when he was arrested at Kakkanad allegedly with 38.13g of MDMA and more than Rs 15 lakh in cash. Najar Ali, 30, was taken into custody by Palarivattom Police. Police seized 1.20g of brown sugar, which had been kept in a zip-lock cover allegedly for sale. Suman Sheikh, 23, of Murshidabad in West Bengal, was arrested from Olavakkode railway station in Palakkad early on Friday. The ganja was seized on Aug 1 as part of Operation Toofan. Sabuj Sheikh, 19, and Raja Sheikh, natives of Murshidabad, were earlier arrested by Rural district Dansaf team, a special investigation team led by Munambam DSP, and Paravur Police.
Meanwhile, an Assam native was arrested with brown sugar. He was arrested near a bus stop near Palarivattom Junction. Ernakulam Rural police also arrested one more accused in a case involving the seizure of 37kg of ganja. Suman was arrested with the assistance of the Railway Protection Force.
He is alleged to be the person who supplied ganja to those arrested earlier.
The deputy excise commissioner said the investigation had found that a person named Ubaid, a native of Kozhikode, supplied the drugs to Arun. More arrests are likely in the case.
