Kanpur: A 60-year-old man wanted in connection with a 1996 case of alleged armed robbery in Farrukhabad has finally been arrested — 30 years after he allegedly went on the run. The case involved the alleged looting of Rs 10,500 and a watch at gunpoint. Police said Mohammad Fayaz Khan, a resident of Jahangirpur village in the Jahanganj police station area, filed a complaint on Sept 1, 1996, alleging that villager Nahid and two unidentified men had robbed him of the cash and watch at gunpoint. Proceedings under Section 82 were later initiated, and Ramveer was declared an absconder in Nov 2023.

Police said his wife had died years ago, after which he moved to Noida with his children. Acting on a tip-off, police tracked down Ramveer in Eka, Firozabad district, bringing a three-decade-long search to an end. Ramveer’s name emerged during the investigation, following which he allegedly went into hiding and repeatedly changed his hideouts to evade arrest. Police continued conducting raids, while the court issued summons and notices. The court subsequently directed police to arrest him immediately. About four years ago, he returned and began living in Eka, where he remained until his arrest.
