Lightning struck the elephant, Pallattu Brahmadathan, owned by Rajesh Pallattu of Melampara Pallattu, when it was stationed in a shed on the house premises. The elephant, which was reportedly in musth, was critically injured in the incident. Brought to Kerala reportedly from Bihar, the elephant was 298cm tall. Brahmadathan, who had been in Kerala for more than three decades, had carried the deity of Paramekkavu temple at Thrissur Pooram. Kottayam: A captive elephant was killed by a lightning strike in Kottayam on Sunday evening. The autopsy will be carried out on Monday and the tusks will be extracted and stored in the strong room of the forest department.
