Sudhakar was booked in a petty case for running his shop during late-night hours, according to police. Police said the case was registered as part of their routine enforcement duties. Nizamabad police commissioner P Sai Chaitanya said there was no direct connection between police and the reason that led Sudhakar to attempt suicide. “There is no fault on the part of police in the incident that occurred at the Bhimgal police station,” the commissioner said. A grocery shop located opposite Sudhakar’s tea stall was allegedly unhappy that he was not buying cigarettes from the shop, according to the preliminary information received by police. The shop owner allegedly sent two men to threaten Sudhakar, police said. Police said the incident was being examined based on the preliminary information available and maintained that the police case against Sudhakar was unrelated to the alleged threats by the men.
