Kolkata: Union home minister Amit Shah will not be able to attend the Mahalaya event, scheduled

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Kolkata: Union home minister Amit Shah will not be able to attend the Mahalaya event, scheduled to be held at Eden Gardens.

We will welcome Ma Durga with a grand show, involving 3,000 drones,” Adhikari told reporters on the sidelines of a news meet at Nabanna on Monday. Around 10,000 dhakis and 1,000 women are scheduled to participate in the programme. Arrangements are being made to screen the event live on giant screens at around 35 locations in the city.

Chief minister Suvendu Adhikari said that as of now, neither the Prime Minister nor the Union home minister would be attending the Mahalaya event. “We have requested the governor and he said that he would be present if he had no other engagements. The chief minister said 45,000 people from across the state would attend the cultural programme, and that “it would be a mega and extremely successful event”. Detailing the plan, Adhikari said, Bengal’s puja traditions would be mixed with modern visual and technological elements.

A few days ago, the state govt had received a communication that Shah would attend the event with Prime Minister Narendra Modi being unable to make it. It will be a grand programme.
