State govt has proposed expediting the process of obtaining GI tags, which will boost exports

Artisans and MSMEs have been offered incentives

Gandhinagar : Gujarat has identified a primary product from each of its 33 districts under the Centre’s One District One Product (ODOP) programme and is now looking to aggressively pursue geographical indication (GI) tags for a large number of these products. Govt has also proposed a 1% export incentive, capped at Rs 10 lakh, along with assistance for quality certification, training and capacity building. Handloom and handicraft startups are eligible for assistance of up to 20%, capped at Rs 6 lakh, under the 2026 expansion of the ODOP programme.

The CM has directed the administration to ensure that a maximum number of products under ODOP get GI tag for stronger brand identity and market access,” said an official. A dedicated ODOP portal is proposed to provide information on products, producers, farmers, artisans, markets, schemes, assistance and export opportunities,” said an official. State govt has proposed expediting the process of obtaining GI tags, which will boost exports and increase incomes of local producers, artisans, farmers and MSMEs. “Primary focus will be on packaging, quality certification and export readiness, while connecting ODOP producers with domestic and international buyers through buyer-seller meets and B2B interactions.

“A presentation was made before the chief minister on Monday regarding the status of the ODOP programme implementation in the state.
