Sabarmati rescue
Ahmedabad: A family confrontation made a 26-year-old catering worker jump into Sabarmati river , but after he was rescued, a tearful reconciliation was achieved at Sabarmati West Riverfront police station, with cops consoling the whole family. He struggled in the water for nearly 30 seconds.
The worker had intervened when his father was allegedly beating his mother, according to police. Riverfront police inspector J P Chaudhary said the youth, a resident of Ahmedabad, was safe and was counselled at the police station. The worker pushed his father away, after which his father began crying. Passers-by saw the youth on the bridge railing moments before he jumped. Riverfront police and the fire department were informed. Fortunately, a river-cleaning skimmer machine was operating nearby. Its workers spotted the youth and rescued him. The youth was taken to the police station. He was crying when he was brought in. The family was called to the police station, resulting in a poignant reunion.
Before the rescue teams could arrive, the youth jumped into the river. Deeply upset by the emotional circumstances, the youth went to Sardar Bridge and jumped into the river on Monday at about 1pm.
