Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : As drought threatens to deepen the city’s water crisis, the civic body has begun cracking down on wastage ahead of its Oct 15 deadline to repair leaking taps and pipelines. Two residents were fined, and 33 illegal water connections snapped on Tuesday.
The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) has asked citizens to fix leaking taps, domestic connections and internal pipelines by Oct 15. One was fined Rs 10,000 for allowing water to flow onto the road. Another was fined Rs 5,000 for failing to repair a tap and allowing water to go waste. After Oct 15, the corporation will impose a graded penalty for water wastage. A first violation will attract a Rs 5,000 fine and a second Rs 10,000. A third violation will invite a Rs 25,000 penalty along with a criminal case.
It is our collective responsibility to save water during the current drought situation, failing which the water crisis could aggravate further,” Yedge said. However, municipal commissioner Amol Yedge has ordered field action already as the civic body looks to conserve every drop in a drought year. During patrols in Aref Colony and Hilal Colony, water supply department teams spotted two residents wasting tap water. “We once again appeal to citizens to close taps after filling and ensure water does not flow into drains or roads. The civic body has also turned its attention to water theft.
On Tuesday, a special squad disconnected 33 illegal water connections in Nagsen Colony, Roshan Gate and Asifiya Colony. Stay updated with the latest Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar news.
