Gorakhpur : Two men were seriously injured after an air compressor tank exploded at a vehicle washing centre in Gorakhpur’s Jungle Kaudia area on Tuesday morning.
The explosion was so powerful that one of the victims, Anand Singh (40), suffered a traumatic injury that severed one of his hands, while another worker, Ashish (25), sustained a serious head injury. After initial treatment, doctors referred both the victims to BRD Medical College due to the severity of their injuries. He had installed an air tank connected to a generator-operated compressor for inflating vehicle tyres, said police. Police said further inquiries are underway. The incident triggered panic among residents. Anand Singh, a resident of Balua village, runs a washing centre from his premises. After some time, he noticed air leaking from the tank. Before he could turn off the generator, the tank burst under pressure with a deafening explosion. Download the TOI App.
On Tuesday morning, Singh was filling the tank with air when he reportedly got occupied with another task.
The blast left both Singh and Ashish critically injured. Hearing the explosion, villagers rushed to the spot and took the injured to the district hospital.
