The DE Shaw global capability centre in Hyderabad, which currently has around 2,000 employees, is set to grow to over 3,000 with the setting up of the new facility, senior company officials said on Wednesday. Addressing the 30th anniversary celebrations of the financial services firm, Telangana IT & industries minister D Sridhar Babu said DE Shaw, which set up its India presence with Hyderabad in 1996, has evolved with Hyderabad’s evolving IT landscape for the past three decades.

“DE Shaw’s presence in Hyderabad over the past 30 years is a testament to the company’s long-term confidence in Telangana and its exceptional talent pool, and the new office reflects the company’s continued confidence in Hyderabad’s talent and Telangana’s growth story,” he said.

Chaitanya Gorrepati, managing director and DE Shaw India operating committee member, said starting from 20 people in Hyderabad, in 1996, DE Shaw India has grown to 2,500 people across Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Gurugram.

“The policies of the government, which are continuous, stable, and promising, are core factors enabling leaders like you to have their presence for a long time,” he added. Thirty years on, our teams in India work on projects across almost every aspect of the firm’s operations in close collaboration with teams around the world,” Fishman said. “Hyderabad is where DE Shaw India began, and 30 years on, it remains central to our story,” Gorrepati added.

“We saw promise here and started a small team working on data analysis and software coding. Eddie Fishman, managing director and executive committee member, DE Shaw Group, said the company moved to Hyderabad when it was just beginning to emerge as the technology hub that it has grown to become today.
