Man arrested with over 21kg of ganja seized at Aluva railway station

Kochi: The railway protection force (RPF) crime intelligence branch, Thiruvananthapuram , seized 21.38kg of dried ganja worth around Rs 10.54 lakh from a West Bengal native at Aluva railway station at 4.25am on Wednesday.

The arrested person, Hasan S K, 26, was found standing suspiciously with a blue trolley bag after alighting from an AC coach of Train No 22815 at Aluva. He allegedly told officers that he had been instructed to hand over the bag to someone at Medical Road, Angamaly, and would have received Rs 10,000 as commission.

Hasan had boarded the train at Vijayawada and possessed a valid ticket up to Ernakulam but got off at Aluva, according to officers. Hasan reportedly told investigators that it was his first visit to Kerala and that he had worked as a labourer in Saudi Arabia. The seizure was made during a joint inspection by RPF and excise department between Thrissur and Aluva railway stations. On checking the bag, the officers found the contraband. The operation was conducted under the supervision of RPF inspector (crime intelligence branch) Jipin A J, as directed by RPF Thiruvananthapuram senior divisional security commissioner Mohammed Haneefa. The accused and the contraband were handed over to the excise department.
