CHENNAI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested an assistant district fire officer in Tiruvannamalai district on Wednesday on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a doctor for issuing a no objection certificate (NOC) for a proposed clinic/hospital.

During the trap, Saravanan demanded and accepted the Rs 10,000 from the complainant. Assistant district fire officer B Saravanan demanded Rs 10,000 to issue the certificate, according to the DVAC. The complainant, Dr Ganesh, a resident of Chengam taluk, had applied for the NOC.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, Ganesh approached the DVAC’s Tiruvannamalai detachment, following which a case was registered, and a trap was organised on Wednesday.
