Mumbai police crack down on factory owner, motorist in separate instances for illegal acid storage

Police found two cans of 40 litres carrying acid stored in a hazardous manner inside a small workshop. On Oct 6, Vanrai Police received information about a steel plate polishing and shining workshop (SS Enterprises) at Cama Estate in Goregaon East that was storing acid illegally without the necessary licence from the BMC. They found the workshop being run from an 10 feet X 20 feet room. Police also found two 40 litre plastic cans filled with acid. The workshop owner, Nitin Singh, 27, is being questioned.

MUMBAI: Following the recent deaths of two youth in a public toilet at Goregaon East due to alleged disposal of chemicals by an electroplating company, police have cracked down on another establishment in the same suburb for storing acid illegally at their premises and registered an FIR. A police team raided the premises. There were three tanks in which steel plate polishing and shining was done in an acid mixture. There was a strong odour and steam emanating from it. No safety equipment, in relation with storing and handling of acid, was found at the workshop. Police registered an FIR under provisions of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and Maharashtra Police Act.
