New Delhi: Patients and visitors at Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) and its hospitals may see changes in parking, entry/exit points and building access under a proposed 30-year redevelopment plan.

A structural audit will be conducted for buildings over 15 metres high and built before 2000, covering roughly 75,000 square metres. The proposal also includes a “Green Campus” with more greenery, solar power, water conservation, waste management and electric vehicles for internal movement. The campus features old, new, and under-construction buildings with limited vacant land. Download the TOI App.

The proposed plan envisages new construction, demolition or strengthening of ageing structures and an integrated network of roads and services, officials said on Wednesday.

The master planning exercise will cover 3.6 lakh square metres, according to the PWD. Around 1 lakh square metres of new buildings have been envisaged on vacant land or land freed after demolition of old structures. Public Works Department (PWD) will hire a consultancy to prepare the plan covering MAMC, Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, Guru Nanak Eye Centre and Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences. The plan proposes a circumferential road, better entrances and exits, parking facilities, improved pedestrian movement and emergency corridors between buildings. A dormitory or budget hotel for attendants and a reception block are also among the facilities the consultant will examine. The plan will also look at residential accommodation and hostels for doctors, nurses and students, along with a convention centre, central library and research facilities. A rooftop helipad will also be examined.
