Househelp held for Rs 35L jewellery theft in Delhi

New Delhi: A newly appointed househelp was apprehended for allegedly starting her employment journey at a house in northwest Delhi’s Bharat Nagar with a theft of jewellery worth Rs 35 lakh, currency notes from the UAE, Malaysia and Singapore, and other valuables.

The burglary was reported on Sept 29, following which police received a tip-off regarding the stolen property being kept in the Rana Pratap Bagh area. “Leads developed through technical surveillance and field inputs determined the involvement of the accused, Jyoti (30), who had been appointed as a househelp in the complainant’s family.

She emerged as the mastermind of the burglary and was arrested by police,” said DCP (northwest) Akanksha Yadav. Police said all the stolen property was recovered, and a case has been registered at Bharat Nagar police station. Further investigation is in progress.
