Mysuru rolled out a grand welcome for its golden girl Pranavi Urs on Wednesday, celebrating her historic Asian Games golf triumph with a felicitation and colourful procession through the city
Pranavi, who won the individual gold medal and contributed to a bronze in the team event at Asian Games, was felicitated by Mysuru MP Yaduveer Wadiyar at Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple at the north gate of Mysuru Palace. The felicitation was organised by Mysore Race Club, Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar Golf Club and the Urs community. Following the felicitation, Pranavi was taken in a grand procession from the temple through Devaraja Urs Road, JLB Road and MG Road, culminating at Mysore Race Club (MRC).
Recalling her formative years, she said junior tournaments and training camps had played a crucial role in shaping her career. Legendary athlete Milkha Singh ’s blessings remained a cherished source of inspiration for golfer Pranavi from her childhood and became a memorable part of her journey to Asian Games glory, her mother Kaivalya Urs said. “Milkha Singh told her that one day she should become like him,” she said.
Pranavi described her triumph as a collective achievement and expressed gratitude to her family, coach, golf clubs, supporters and the people of Mysuru who had stood by her throughout her journey. Kaivalya, who accompanied Pranavi through much of her tournament journey across the country and abroad, recalled that her daughter developed a passion for sports at a young age. Pranavi would enter competitions with the confidence that she could win and had nurtured a dream of competing at the national level. The family’s association with Milkha added a special dimension to Pranavi’s childhood. Kaivalya recalled that when the family met the legendary athlete along with young Pranavi, Singh blessed her and encouraged her to achieve greatness in sport.
