Bike ride ends in tragedy for family of 4; 3 killed, 1 injured

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Hyderabad: A couple and their six-year-old son were killed, while their 10-year-old daughter was injured after the motorcycle they were travelling on met with an accident at Gollapally village near Chevella on Tuesday night.

The accident occurred around 9.15 pm on the Chevella-Shankarpally road. The deceased were Kummari Madhu (34), his wife Savithri (32) and their son Dhanush (6), residents of Medipally village in Moinabad mandal. Their daughter Akshaya (10) suffered minor injuries and is undergoing treatment at a govt hospital in Chevella. The family had left home around 4 pm on Tuesday on a bike to attend a function at the house of a relative, K Venkatesh, in Chenvelli village near Chevella, according to Chevella police. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Section 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the BNS on Tuesday night.

Police said her condition was out of danger. At present, it appears to be a self-caused accident,” Narender Reddy said. The accident occurred while they were returning home. Madhu’s elder brother, K Mallesh, later lodged a complaint with Chevella police, alleging that rash and negligent driving by an unknown person had caused the accident and resulted in the deaths of three members of his family. “The bike was not damaged, indicating that there may not have been a collision with another vehicle. We are checking CCTV footage from nearby areas to rule out that possibility.

The bodies were handed over to the family after postmortem on Wednesday.

The family came to know about the accident through their village WhatsApp group.

We are verifying whether it was a hit-and-run case or a self-caused accident,” Chevella inspector K Narender Reddy said. “The bike was being driven at high speed and went out of control, causing the family to fall on the divider. The couple and their son suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. Their daughter was shifted to the hospital with minor injuries.
