Gorakhpur: The Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA) has finalised plans for ‘Gurukul City’, a flagship residential township envisioned as the foundation of New Gorakhpur, in line with chief minister Yogi Adityanath ’s directive to promote planned urban expansion in the city.
In the first phase, a residential township spread across nearly 100 acres will be developed, while the entire project is planned over approximately 400 acres in phases, officials said.
Gurukul City will come up along the Sonauli Road corridor, covering areas including Maniram, Balapar and Rahmatnagar, according to GDA officials. Officials said the city’s improved road, rail and air connectivity, along with the presence of universities, engineering and medical institutions, has increased its appeal as a residential destination for people from neighbouring districts and even bordering areas of Bihar. GDA officials said Gurukul City is being designed as a modern urban township with citizen-friendly amenities, environmentally sustainable infrastructure and a blend of contemporary development and traditional values.
GDA is preparing to launch the project by Diwali, with the inauguration proposed to be carried out by the chief minister. The proposed township is located near Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, the second battalion of the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force, and several prominent private schools.
