The fee dispute at Delhi Public School, Dwarka, shows little sign: The wider industry impact

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

New Delhi: The fee dispute at Delhi Public School, Dwarka, shows little sign of resolution, with parents and the institute now differing over how orders apply to demands for outstanding payments.

Parents said they had been paying the full base fee and 50% of the increased component in accordance with the 2025 order. The school, according to its officials, stated in its Oct 6 email that the 2026 judgment concerned academic years 2016-17 to 2022-23, and asked parents to comply with the 2025 order. The exchange followed notices issued by the school on Oct 1 seeking payment within seven days. In one such notice, the school demanded nearly Rs 1.9 lakh.

In their latest responses to the school, parents have challenged the interpretation and sought detailed calculations of the amounts demanded. Parents have disputed the calculations and the legal basis of the demands. They sought year-wise and month-wise breakups, complete payment ledgers, details of any late fee or other charges, and an explanation of whether the alleged excess collections had been refunded or adjusted. Pending clarification and reconciliation, parents asked the school to keep the disputed demands on hold and refrain from taking any coercive or adverse action affecting their children’s education.

Parents have disputed demands for outstanding fees, arguing that a May 2026 Delhi High Court judgment bars retrospective recovery of arrears. The school, however, maintains that the judgment concerns disputes from earlier academic years and does not affect a separate May 2025 order, which says the payments related to 2024-25 are due.
