Apple may launch its first touch-screen MacBook on October 27

Apple is planning to introduce its first MacBook with touch screen on October 27, reports Bloomberg citing people with knowledge of the matter. The end-of-month announcements will also include versions of the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac with M6 chips, said the source cited by the publication. The reported October 27 event will follow the October 13 event where the company will unveil its revamped smart home strategy. Like its smart home event on October 13, the next launch will include an online video presentation and in-person component for the press, the report says. Meanwhile, the company has announced a ‘Welcome home’ event for October 13.

The company is expected to unveil its “long-awaited smart home hub with a screen, the new HomePod mini and an updated Apple TV. As per the report, the company may also bring a new iPad mini at the event. Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Marketing, Greg Joswiak posted a teaser video of the launch on X. The most notable launch is expected to be a new smart home hub with a built-in display, which could compete with devices such as Google Nest Hub and Amazon Echo Show. The device is rumoured to feature an S11 chip, which could support faster performance and Siri AI features. The screen could be used to show information such as weather updates, calendar events and music controls. A FaceTime camera is also among the expected features, potentially allowing the device to double as a video-calling hub. Apple is also reportedly developing a specialised operating system for the device focused on smart home controls.
