Kanpur: An FIR has been registered over the alleged cheating of a retired Army soldier and Kargil war veteran of Rs 58.6 lakh on the promise of securing a petrol pump allotment in his wife’s name. The complainant alleged that the accused posed as an oil company’s account head, collected the money for licensing and departmental formalities, and later sent documents that verification found to be forged.
Dhyani met Chandel, an acquaintance of his elder brother, while attending his brother’s death anniversary at Butibori in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Chandel had allegedly assured Dhyani’s nephew, Aman, that he could secure a petrol pump for him. When Aman asked him to arrange one for his retired soldier uncle, Chandel claimed he could easily secure the allotment.
Fazalganj station in charge Dhananjay Kumar Pandey said the FIR was registered on Thursday evening on the orders of the police commissioner.
Dhyani said he had taken a personal loan of Rs 12 lakh from SBI’s Industrial State, Fazalganj branch, on July 1, 2023, to help arrange the funds. A monthly instalment of Rs 23,150 was now being deducted from his pension, causing financial hardship for his family.
