Chennai: Chief minister C Joseph Vijay, DMK president M K Stalin and other political leaders wished Navanethem Pillay, who has been selected for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

“I fondly recall meeting her at the United Nations in Geneva in 2012, when I raised the plight of Eelam Tamils and their struggle for justice and dignity,’’ he said sharing the pic of their meeting on X.

“The announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her initiatives to promote peace and international law brings immense joy and pride to Tamil people across the world,’’ said Vijay in an X Post. Vijay said she has tirelessly championed human rights , world peace and justice at the international level. “Ms Pillay began her journey through legal battles against racial discrimination in South Africa and went on to serve as a judge of the country’s High Court and as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights,’’ he said. Stalin said that her journey has been defined by courage and conviction, from fighting apartheid to championing human rights across the world.
