Ahead of the CJP’s protest at Jantar Mantar, Delhi Police implemented traffic restrictions
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Saturday imposed traffic restrictions across the national capital from 6 am, with diversions planned at several locations ahead of the CJP’s protest at Jantar Mantar against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, during which the group is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The diversions, which came into effect at 6 am, will be regulated according to the prevailing law and order situation.
Delhi Traffic Police said the restrictions would be reviewed based on real-time assessments and could be relaxed or tightened as required. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers, manning barricades and monitoring vehicles as security was tightened ahead of the demonstration. The arrangements come amid traffic restrictions, metro curbs, train cancellations and a mobile internet suspension in parts of the capital. Delhi Traffic Police has cautioned commuters about possible disruptions around Connaught Place, Mandi House, Jantar Mantar, Patel Chowk and other major intersections in central Delhi. Traffic was moving smoothly as police monitored vehicles entering and leaving the area, stopping and checking some cars.
Visuals from the protest site early on Saturday showed a substantial police presence, with personnel deployed along roads and at barricades across the city.
