Former Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee was packed into a prison van at detained at Dwarka North police station on Saturday
This huffing and puffing dragon, the BJP regime, cannot stop our protest,” she told reporters. “Even though it’s Durga Puja , I decided to stay back in the greater interest of the people,” she said. Former CPM MLA Sujan Chakraborty, also detained in Delhi, said the entire city had been turned into “an absolute battlefield. He said CPM’s MA Baby and others were manhandled, AKG Bhawan was “practically under siege,” and those detained — including former Tripura CM Manik Sarkar and 20-25 central committee members — were taken to Burari Police Station near the Singhu border.
Upon reaching the police station, Banerjee refused water and resumed her dharna. “We are politicians, not criminals or murderers. “They put us in a prison van and kept moving for two hours. Then we were brought straight to this police station on the Haryana-Delhi border. If they intended to arrest us, they could have sent a regular police vehicle. This is nothing short of kidnapping,” she added.
Kolkata: Former CM Mamata Banerjee was packed into a prison van and detained for nearly four hours at Dwarka North police station on Saturday after she sat on dharna near Delhi’s Jantar Mantar bus stand in solidarity with Cockroach Janata Party’s protests. Banerjee said she was scheduled to return to Kolkata on Saturday night but postponed her plans after Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi asked her to stay for the opposition’s protest march to the Supreme Court on Monday.
