Bengaluru: A delegation of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) Saturday met chief minister DK Shivakumar to discuss arrangements, including security, for the Dalai Lama ’s proposed visit to Bylakuppe in Mysuru district in Dec. The 14th Dalai Lama is scheduled to arrive at Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in Bylakuppe for an extended stay of nearly two months. Jigme Tsultrim, CTA’s chief representative in Bengaluru, met Shivakumar at his official residence. The meeting was attended by Bylakuppe Tibetan settlement officer Gawang Tenzin, public relations officer Kunga Yeshi, Lhampo Monastery administrator Kachen Lobsang Setan, general secretary Nawang Lobsang and Tenzin Norgyal.

Preparations for the visit, including security, crowd management and accommodation for visitors, were discussed. The extended stay is expected to give devotees and members of the Tibetan community opportunities to attend spiritual teachings, receive blessings and participate in prayers and cultural programmes. Karnataka has longstanding ties with the Tibetan community and is home to major settlements at Bylakuppe and Hunsur in Mysuru district, Mundgod in Uttara Kannada and Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district. Bylakuppe is one of India’s prominent Tibetan settlements and houses major Buddhist monasteries, including Sera and Tashi Lhunpo.
