Kolhapur: The Satara city police have arrested three suspects, including a minor, for allegedly breaking open the shutter of a jewellery shop at Shete Chowk in Satara and stealing goods worth Rs9.15 lakh. The theft took place on the night of Oct 7.

The three suspects, all from Satara, were apprehended following a police investigation into the incident after Akshay Ankush Shinde (31), a resident of Patkhal, filed a complaint with the city police station on Oct 8. The suspects were identified as Rehan Anwar Sheikh (20), a resident of Shaniwar Peth, and Shubham Suresh Hadge (19), a resident of Kesarkar Peth. They stole gold rings worth Rs1.30 lakh, nose rings worth Rs1.25 lakh, silver bangles and anklets worth Rs1.53 lakh each, silver ornaments worth Rs55,000, small and large idols worth Rs33,000 and rings, zodiac stones, and tax money from the shop.

S G Mhetre, police inspector, Satara City police, said, “The incident happened on Oct 7th at midnight. The minor has also been taken into custody. The suspected gang broke open the shutters of Avadhoot Jewellers shop. The next day after the incident, the city police conducted a panchnama and immediately started an investigation. The jeweller’s shop had a CCTV camera. However, it came to light that the thieves also stole the entire set of machines, including the DVR and CCTV camera, during the robbery, which hampered the police’s preliminary investigation. “While the investigation was going on through technical and conventional information, some suspects were seen in the CCTV footage that was gathered from the area. The suspects were then arrested, who confessed to the theft,” added Mhetre.
