API Jitendra Wagh of the Mumbai Naka police station, who is investigating the case, said that Shaikh had left his house and had gone to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar a few months ago. Shaikh’s mother-in-law runs a laundry business. The deceased, Vitthal Pagar, a divorcee and a native of Sakri in Dhule district, used to give his clothes to Shaikh’s mother-in-law for washing, during which he began interacting with Shaikh’s wife.

Pagar suffered a head injury and succumbed to it. Shaikh then left the house and latched the door from outside.
Around 9:30am, when Pagar’s friend came to visit him, he found him lying in a pool of blood.
