Pathak said several initiatives had recently been launched to accelerate the region’s

Lucknow: Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak on Saturday highlighted the Uttar Pradesh govt’s development push in Purvanchal while stressing the need to preserve the region’s cultural identity at the ninth edition of the Maati Purvanchal Festival in Lucknow.

Union minister of state for finance and BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary said Purvanchal had produced talent recognised nationally and globally, while BJP MP Jagdambika Pal lauded Maati’s efforts to connect younger generations with their roots. Maati coordinator Asif Azmi said that this is the ninth year of Maati. Organised jointly by the Maati organisation and Union ministry of culture, the festival concluded at Sangeet Natak Akademi in Gomtinagar, bringing together artists, poets, public representatives and cultural enthusiasts from across the region. ADG (law and order) Amitabh Yash, ANDUAT VC Gyanendra Pratap Singh and Pradeep Narayan Singh of Varanasi royal family were among eight persons felicitated on the occasion. The event featured discussions on Purvanchal’s future, folk performances, poetry recitals and theatre. The issue symbolises the completion of one phase and the beginning of a new era.

Pathak said several initiatives had recently been launched to accelerate the region’s development. He also praised the Maati organisation for promoting Purvanchal’s art, literature, folk traditions and cuisine.
