Pune: Vishrambaug police have registered a case against five people, including a political party member, for flying a drone and filming the MPSC aspirants’ protest site on S M Joshi Bridge on Oct 5 without police permission. This is the second case registered in connection with the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants’ protest since Oct 1 over various demands, including the resignation of the commission’s chairperson, Vivek Bhiwankar. Vishrambaug police on Friday registered a case against 15 people, including MPSC aspirants’ representatives, for staging the alleged illegal protest in Navi Peth. The suspects flew the drone in the S M Joshi Bridge area around 7.30pm on Oct 5, according to the FIR based on constable Tole’s complaint. A police team seized it and its remote control, collectively worth Rs50,000.

Police said the five people neither had a licence nor police permission to fly the drone. One of them told the police that he had brought the drone at the request of the political party member. He said, “Police are acting at the govt’s behest and issuing notices to job aspirants.

They have been identified in the FIR. They are deliberately harassing the protesters only to end the agitation. The protest will not be called off under any circumstances until the chairperson resigns. I met senior police officers at Vishrambaug police station and submitted an application seeking permission for the protest.”

Police constable Yuvraj Tole lodged the complaint on Friday against the five men. NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar on Saturday said police were registering cases against MPSC aspirants instead of him despite his participation in their protest as a public representative to harass them.
