Lucknow: Cancelled trains, expensive airfares, road journeys involving multiple taxi changes and intensive security checks on vehicles heading towards Delhi disrupted travel plans of passengers from Lucknow and other parts of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, amid heightened security arrangements for the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar.

Trains that departed from their originating stations after 2 pm on Oct 9 and were scheduled to arrive at New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin between 4 am and 2 pm on Oct 10 were cancelled, according to a Railway Board circular. Passengers were advised to check train status through helpline 139, the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app and official railway information channels before starting their journeys. Rahul Mishra, from Sitapur, said “I was travelling to Delhi for an admission-related appointment. Missing the train means I may lose another day and have to postpone the deal,” said Sanjay Yadav of Rae Bareli. The cancellations affected passengers travelling from Lucknow and other cities in Uttar Pradesh. Railways attributed the decision to anticipated road congestion in the vicinity of the stations.
