Nvidia is exploring a deal to either significantly expand its ownership stake in Reflection AI or acquire the high-profile open-source artificial intelligence (AI) startup entirely, a report has said. Citing individuals with direct knowledge of the discussions, a report by the Financial Times noted that negotiations between the two technology firms remain in their initial stages, and any prospective agreement could take several distinct structures.
Nvidia is already deeply embedded in Reflection AI’s corporate trajectory as both a primary strategic partner and a major shareholder, having previously injected $800 million into the venture, according to the Financial Times. The acquisition talks come on the heels of major product rollouts from the young company. The launch is aimed at tackling software engineering workflows, coding evaluations and autonomous agent tasks, putting the startup in direct competition with low-cost open alternatives originating from Chinese labs, such as DeepSeek and Kimi.
On Monday, Reflection AI officially released Beam, its inaugural open-weight AI model.
