CHENNAI: The TVK govt has set a goal of making Tamil Nadu a $1.5 trillion economy by 2036, chief minister C Joseph Vijay said on Sunday. The chief minister was speaking at an event in IIT Madras where Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched various infrastructure projects worth Rs 13,000 crore, including phase II of Chennai Metro Rail project and others completed by highways, ports, railways and other ministries. Modi said in the past 12 years, the metro rail services expanded to 25 cities and the length of services increased from 250 km in 2014 to 1,100km in 2026.

Vijay said his govt is trying to provide a corruption-free and inclusive governance. In his speech, the Prime Minister said the Centre would extend all help to keep Tamil Nadu growing. “We are taking Tamil Nadu’s development journey forward with CM Vijay,” PM Narendra Modi said.

Modi recalled his association with former chief ministers K Karunanidhi, J Jayalalithaa and Edappadi Palanisamy and M K Stalin The PM said the new projects launched on Sunday would ease transport and give more jobs to youngsters in Tamil Nadu.
