Replica of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram is part of centenary celebrations of the Bai Ka Bagh Barwari Durga Puja Committee

The replica is the centrepiece of the centenary celebrations of the Bai Ka Bagh Barwari Durga Puja Committee, which is building a 60-foot-high pandal for the occasion. Prayagraj : This Durga Puja , the Sangam City is set to witness a striking blend of Kerala’s famed temple grandeur and Bengal’s festive traditions, as a city puja committee recreates the architectural splendour of the iconic Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram . Kolkata artisans have been working on the structure for the past one month, painstakingly shaping the pandal to mark the committee’s 100th year. Inside, the pandal will feature eight doors, inspired by the seven doors of the temple’s famed treasury. The structure is being crafted from plywood and plastic fibre and will subsequently be painted to lend it a grand, temple-like appearance. An idol of Lord Vishnu will also be installed inside, adding to the Kerala-inspired theme. Its office-bearers, including president Prof Jayant Sridhar Joshi, secretary Ratnesh Pandey, Pawan Shukla and Sunil Singh, and treasurer Jai Agrawal, subsequently finalised the plan.

The committee had decided last year to make its centenary celebrations special.

the weapons, ornaments and attire of the deity are being brought from Kolkata and are expected to arrive by October 10 While the Durga idol is being prepared locally. The idol will be placed inside the pandal on October 15, Agrawal said. Adding a traditional Bengali touch to the celebrations, six dhak artistes from Kolkata have also been invited to perform during the festival from Oct 15 to 21.

For a week, therefore, Prayagraj will see an unusual cultural confluence: the architectural grandeur of Kerala, the artistry of Kolkata and the festive spirit of Durga Puja — all coming together at Bai Ka Bagh for a centenary celebration.
