Kolkata: CM Suvendu Adhikari on Monday set a firm target of completing one lakh transparent, merit-based govt job recruitments by May 8, 2027 — when his govt completes one year in office — and announced a notification for 9,000 new police posts in Nov. We will provide transparent, merit-based govt jobs to one lakh eligible candidates by May 8,” Adhikari said, after inaugurating Ozem Mansion Kolkata, a five-star resort in New Town. Addressing a constable appointment letter ceremony, Adhikari said Bengal’s police-to-population ratio of 105 per lakh was well below the national average of 155 and Uttar Pradesh’s 200. Results for recruitment of 4,000 Kolkata Police personnel will be published in the last week of Dec, with appointment letters in Jan 2027. Another 650 clerical police posts will be filled through the Public Service Commission, and 1,131 pending sub-inspector appointments will be completed soon. Of 11,593 recruitment posts completed, 3,379 are women constables. The govt also distributed 3,500 body cameras to the police force. The CM said long-pending 20% DA arrears for police personnel had been cleared, with DA now at 38%. Salaries for Oct will be paid in advance on Oct 15.

“We are emphasising on plugging this gap,” he said, vowing to surpass UP’s ratio within two years. “I commit that in the next four and a half years, this govt will not do anything in matters of skilled and public sector recruitment for which one can move court. The Seventh Pay Commission’s recommendations will be implemented once the final report is received.
