CHENNAI: Former Chennai city commissioner of police A Arun, an ADGP-rank officer currently under compulsory wait, was questioned by a police team probing the handling of the sexual assault case involving Gem Granites owner R Veeramani.
The inquiry formed part of the investigation into the handling of a case registered in Oct 2025 after a volunteer submitted a pen drive containing a video purportedly showing the sexual assault of a minor girl to the Anti-Vice Squad of Chennai police. Initially the city police filed a closure report dated Feb 19, 2026, citing their inability to establish the identity and age of the girl in the video, among other reasons. A special Pocso court, however, rejected the attempt to close the case under ‘further action dropped’ category, and ordered further investigation. The state then formed an all-women special investigation team to probe the child rape cases and other ‘related matters. ’
