A 22-year-old scooter rider died while the person sitting pillion suffered serious injuries after their two-wheeler crashed into a stationary container truck on Katraj-Dehu Road bypass
“Kamble suffered serious injuries in the accident,” said senior inspector Sharad Zine of Ambegaon police station, adding, “The container truck driver had parked the heavy vehicle haphazardly on the road, leading to the accident. The officer further said, “The container truck was heading towards Hyderabad from JNPT port in Navi Mumbai. “The truck driver told us that his vehicle developed a technical snag while climbing the ghat section, forcing him to park it on the road,” Zine said.
Halting is not allowed on this bypass section. The two scooter riders were college friends heading to Kondhanpur for a short trip. Sawant was a homemaker, while Kamble works with a childcare facility in Pashan. The two women decided to spend some time together and visit Kondhanpur. Sawant took her scooter, and both were heading towards New Katraj Tunnel at the time of the incident. Zine added, “We do not know why Sawant was unable to spot the stationary truck. We will record Kamble’s statement to ascertain how the accident took place. Ambegaon police have registered a case against the truck driver for rash and negligent acts.
