He knows the Chiefs’ offense, has won two Super Bowls with the team and could provide depth without the same level of uncertainty. The Kansas City Chiefs’ interest in Tyreek Hill has hit a new complication, with the team reportedly preparing to bring former wide receiver Justin Watson in for a visit. Kansas City had been linked with Hill as it looks to strengthen its receiving group, but the five-time All-Pro’s recovery from a serious knee injury and a potential NFL suspension make his return less straightforward. Watson offers a different option. The visit does not guarantee a deal, but it gives Kansas City another route to consider.
Watson spent three seasons with the Chiefs from 2022 through 2024, helping the team win two Super Bowls. At 30, he is unlikely to offer the same explosive upside as Hill, but his familiarity with the offense could make him a practical addition. Heavy reported that Hill’s recent civil trial included his admission that he verbally threatened and pushed his ex-wife, Lakeeta Vaccaro Hill.
He also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before joining Kansas City, giving him valuable NFL experience. If Kansas City signs him, Watson could begin on the practice squad and earn opportunities on game days. A place on the active roster is also possible, depending on his performance and the team’s needs. The NFL is also investigating a potential violation of its personal conduct policy, which could result in a suspension. Those issues leave his availability uncertain even if he regains enough fitness to play. Kansas City does not have to choose between the two immediately. A visit with Watson would allow the team to assess one option while it continues to evaluate Hill’s situation.
Per many reports, the Chiefs are expected to host Watson at their facility on Monday, following a report from team reporter Pete Sweeney. Sweeney wrote, “Watson is expected to be in town on Monday.
