Discom MDs told to randomly check 7-10 electricity bills weekly to curb billing errors
Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited ( UPPCL ) chairman and principal secretary (energy) Ranvir Prasad on Tuesday directed the managing directors of all discoms to randomly examine seven to 10 consumer electricity bills every week to identify billing errors and ensure accuracy. Expressing dissatisfaction over Saharanpur’s low through rate of Rs 1.71 per unit, Prasad directed officials to take corrective measures. The chairman ordered special scrutiny of feeders recording through rates below Rs 5 per unit and directed discoms to prioritise their 10 highest-loss feeders to reduce distribution losses.
Chairing a weekly review meeting at Shakti Bhawan, Prasad instructed officials to rectify incorrect bills promptly, dispose of billing complaints within stipulated timelines and prevent irregularities in bill revisions. He warned that personnel responsible for discrepancies would face action. He also pulled up officials over poor revenue collection in Moradabad.
Discoms were also asked to identify their 10 biggest defaulters, verify bills, issue notices and initiate disconnections wherever warranted under prescribed procedures. To recover outstanding dues in rural areas, he instructed officials to inform village pradhans about consumers who had defaulted on payments.
