Mother, boyfriend held for torturing and physically abusing children
Kanyakumari : A 26-year-old woman and her boyfriend were arrested for subjecting her two children to severe physical abuse at a rented house in Osaravilai. Police identified the accused as Suganya of Pulluvilai and Ranjith Kumar , 29, of Nainar Pudur, who works at a power plant in Tuticorin. The children’s relatives confirmed to TOI that they were safe and in their custody.
Police said that Suganya had been living separately from her husband for the past three months and was staying in a rented house at Osaravilai with her two children, a six-year-old daughter and a seven-year-old son. Suganya and Kumar had known each other since their school days and had recently rekindled their acquaintance, which later developed into a relationship, according to police. The duo then purchased medicines and treated the children without taking them to the hospital, police said.
The two frequently met at her residence.
Meanwhile, believing that the children were coming in the way of their relationship, the duo assaulted them with a bamboo stick and struck their heads with a ringed hand, causing injuries.
