Man bursts firecrackers at Sabarmati Riverfront
Ahmedabad: A birthday celebration on the Sabarmati Riverfront has landed a 22-year-old man in legal trouble after a video of him allegedly bursting firecrackers in public went viral. The incident occurred around 12.05am on Oct 6 opposite the Riverfront Sports Complex. According to a complaint filed on Oct 11 by a constable attached to the Riverfront (West) police station, the video showed an SUV parked at the spot while its occupant burst firecrackers. Police booked him under Sections 205 and 288 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Section 205 relates to fraudulently wearing or carrying an item used by a public servant with the intention of making others believe that the person belongs to that category. Section 288 deals with negligent conduct involving explosive substances.
Police said a board marked ‘POLICE’ was also displayed on the dashboard of the SUV used during the celebration. A video of the celebration later surfaced on social media, prompting the police to trace the vehicle and identify the man allegedly driving it. A board bearing the word ‘POLICE’ was visible on the dashboard. Acting on the instructions of senior officers, police examined CCTV footage from the location and nearby roads. They traced the vehicle through its registration number to a black Scorpio registered with the Patan RTO. The investigation led police to Kishan Bhalodia, a resident of Kush Apartment near a homeopathy college on Bopal-Ghuma Road. The complaint alleged that Bhalodia, although not a public servant, had placed the board on the dashboard, thereby creating a false impression that he was associated with the police. The case was registered after police identified the vehicle through CCTV footage and registration records and allegedly established the identity of the man involved.
