Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar zilla parishad (ZP) on Thursday will launch a mass hand-hygiene awareness initiative across gram panchayats, health centres, schools and anganwadis to mark Global Handwashing Day.

The method involves wetting hands with running water, applying soap, scrubbing palms, between fingers, under nails and wrists for 20 seconds, rinsing and drying with a clean towel or air drying. Different local authorities have been directed that photo and video reports of the drives be submitted by Oct 20. Stay updated with the latest Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar news.

“Washing hands with soap before eating and after using the toilet remains the simplest, cheapest and most effective shield against diarrhoea, stomach infections and respiratory illnesses among other ailments,” ZP president Avinash Galande said. “The ZP has directed BDOs, BEOs, taluka health officers and CDPOs to prepare taluka and village-level plans for demonstrating the 20-second handwashing method at PHCs, sub-centres, veterinary dispensaries, ZP schools and anganwadis,” women and child welfare chairperson Meenakshi Pawar said. Under the message “Wash hands, be a hero”, the ZP has appealed to these institutions to organise awareness activities and encourage residents to adopt handwashing as a regular habit. The initiative focuses on making hand hygiene a community-driven practice, particularly among children, the elderly and the rural population.
