Madurai: Madurai corporation has taken up repair and maintenance works at Periyar bus terminus at Rs5 lakh, covering damaged platforms, bus bays, toilets and drainage-related issues. The work will include levelling uneven portions of platforms and bus bays, and replacing broken tiles. The project comes amid complaints from passengers over several maintenance issues at the terminus. Passengers have also complained about inadequate shade at some waiting areas. Broken portions of the roofing leave commuters exposed to direct sunlight in the afternoon. Rainwater accumulation near the bus bays is another problem raised by passengers. Puddles and flowing water make access difficult during rain and reduce the usable space near some boarding points. “For now, announcements are being made over the PA system regarding bus information.
